City Hotel Matyas was the founding member of the City Hotel chain. The hotel nestles in the heart of the downtown just 50 metres from the fashionable quarter around Vaci Street, home to many of Budapest's most exclusive boutiques and restaurants. The 85-room house is positioned above Matyas Pince / Matthias Cellar Restaurant, renowned far and wide for its historical interior and superb cuisine.

No fuss, clean, and with all the requisite facilities for the solo traveller.

 
I was delighted to stay in an Hungarian Hotel which provided me with everything I needed. I travel light and appreciate value for money, and that's what I got. This is not a bland American 5-star hotel which looks like every other American 5-star hotel in every other American-cloned city throughout the world offering standard American-style menus and false American courtesies. Full of ' fin de siecle ' characteristics, this determinedly European hotel made me feel I was in Budapest and not in the artificial glare of an over-priced American hotel. This hotel was a delight. Hopefully I shall return.
