When purchasing such items in Hungary, tourists better be aware that all antiques more than 50 years old need a permit to leave the country. Permits can only be issued at the Cultural Inheritance Office, and might take 2-3 weeks to get. Hungary's biggest pawn-brokerage chain, BÁV, can supply detailed information on the subject.
