The mansion on 60 Andrassy StreetThe building that hosts the museum is on Adrassy Street and was built in 1880, as a Neo-Renaissance mansion. From 1940 the Hungarian ultra-right party, which was called Arrow Cross Party used it as its headquarters and as prison after coming to power. After the Soviet invasion the communist political police used it as a prison and the cellar was a torture chamber. In December 2000 "The Public Foundation for the Research of Central and East European History and Society" purchased the building with the aim of establishing a museum in order to present these two bloody periods of Hungarian history.
