Budapest Parliament Building |
|
The most famous landmark of Budapest
The Parliament is one of the largest buildings in the country and is one of the best known sights and symbols of the capital city. This rich architectural masterpiece of Budapest was built based on Imre Steindl's ideas, between 1884 and 1902; it resembles the design of the London Parliament, it's 268 meters long, 96 meters high and has 691 rooms. The building is crowned with a huge dome, its facade is Neo-Gothic while the ground plan follows Baroque conventions. The ceiling of the central dome is covered in heraldic decoration combined with gilded patterns; adorning the massive pillars that hold it are statues with figures of great Hungarian rulers.
