Royal Palace

The Castle District


The building of the Royal Palace was started by King Bela the IVth in the 13th century. Later Sigmund, The Holy Roman Emperor, built a Gothic palace on its present site. The Habsburgs built their palace here in the 18th century. The castle gained its present form after World War II, when it was reconstructed. Today it hosts a museum.
