Weekend in Hotel GellertReview of Danubius Hotel Gellert, Budapest, Hungary"Hotel location great, building lovely to look at, however old fashioned inside - may be in need of refurbishment. Thermal baths were a real experience and the lady in the lift was a delight. As a single traveller I had booked a single room, and it really was not up to much - single bed, scruffy furniture, patchy carpet, next to service area so was woken up each morning at 6 am by cleaning staff. However, it was only a room and I was there to sightsee, which I did and there are some wonderful places to see and visit. It would have been nice if my room had been better, but on the whole hotel was OK. Certainly wouldn't rate it 4 stars but was ok." jenny fereday (Solo traveler) from shepton montague, somerset, england (2006. 06. 19.)Budapest for the first timeReview of Hotel Atlantic, Budapest, Hungary"The Atlantic Hotel is a very modest but clean accomodation. The front desk staff are very helpful with directions and suggestions. The rooms were adequate, but, the triple room we stayed in wasn't really equipped with proper beds. They were kind of like a day bed, very short and narrow like a long ottoman... not sure. Other than that, the hotel was more than adequate for our needs for somewhere clean and safe to stay while we kicked around Budapest." The rooms were large and had many windows, thus had a very bright and open feel. They were also very clean. There was secure parking (at a charge), and use of the hotel safe (at a charge). Breakfast was included and was very good. I enjoyed the one dinner I ate in the hotel restraurant. There was a kitchen in the room and it seemed very clean. Since I was traveling alone, the biggest drawback for me was the hotel's location. That particular area of town seemed a bit run down. I didn't feel safe walking around the area after dark. It was a 20 minute walk to the Pest side. You could also take a bus or taxi. Conveniently, you can buy your bus tickets at the hotel. Fortunately, the bus stopped directly in front of the hotel. So, I did not feel unsafe taking the bus back later in the evening. It was only a 10 -15 minute walk to the Gellert. I am not sure about the convenience to reach the other Buda attractions, since I went on an organized tour to those. One other severe problem was the noise from the street, which carried on throughout the night. A light sleeper would not have slept well. If I stayed at the hotel again, I would ensure I had a room facing away from the street. They did not have blow driers in the room, but did lend one at no charge. There were not hangers in my room. But maybe they would supply those. I didn't ask. " Lisa Ellsberry (Solo traveler) from Bellevue, WA, United States (2006. 06. 11.) |
