The Corvinus University of Budapest was established by the integration of the Budapest University of Economic Sciences, the College of Public Administration, and the University of Horticulture and Food Industry in 2003. The University of Economic Sciences has been a major institution in Hungary, educating top-level economists. The Main Building on Fovam Square was built in 1870 as a customs palace, and was given to the university following a remodeling in 1950. Another reconstruction phase came at the end of the 20th century, and today's building is again a prominent sight on the south-Pest Danube bank.
Apart from the main campus, which includes the historic building, the university has a modern campus on the Buda side, bordered by Villanyi, Szuret, and Somloi streets. Educational programs at the university center around agricultura, economy, informatics, law, administration and human sciences. The university often hosts various exhibitions and conferences.
