Chain Bridge, the Széchenyi lánchíd is the oldest permanent bridge of the Hungarian capital over the Danube. Located in the heart of the city, it was built between 1839 and 1849, at the initiative of count István Széchenyi. It was bombed at the end of the Second World War, rebuilt by 1949, and renovated in 1986-88.
The historical bridge includes two traffic lanes, and separate pedestrian walkways on either side, used by bicycles as well.
