Debrecen is the second largest city in Hungary, seat of Hajdu-Bihar County, the centre of the eastern region. The history of the city interlocks with Calvinism and reformation, so the city was named �the Calvinist Rome�.
The Calvinist Cathedral is the most prominent historical building in downtown Debrecen. Located between Kossuth Square and Kalvin Square, it was built in Classicist style at the wake of the 19th century. Today, its floor space reaches 1500sqm. The building has two towers with Baroque roofs, the western tower includes the famous Rakoczi Bell. The cathedral can be visited from 9am until 4pm Monday through Friday, and from 9am until 1pm on Saturdays. Additional visits can be arranged by appointment.
