Malta is an island country in the Mediterranean Sea, south of the island of Sicily, Italy. Only the three largest islands (Malta, G?awdex or Gozo, and Kemmuna or Comino) are inhabited. The country's climate is Mediterranean, with mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. The terrain is mostly flat, the coastline has many cliffs and numerous bays that provide good harbours. The capital, Valletta, is also a harbour city, preserving much of its 16th century architectural heritage. It was one of the earliest sites inscribed by UNESCO on the World Heritage list. South Malta includes two beautiful stone temples: Hagar Qim and Mnajdra, as well the Blue Grotto - a series of seven caves and inlets famous for deep blue waters and spectacular natural rock formations. Apart from these sites, the island's numerous sandy beaches draw leisure-seeking tourists from all over the world.
