Russia, more fully known as the Russian Federation, is a vast country in Eastern Europe and northern Asia. Russia has both extensive Arctic Ocean and North Pacific Ocean coastlines, as well as smaller coastlines on the Baltic, Black and Caspian Seas. In Europe, Russia is bordered by Norway and Finland to the northwest, and Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine to the west. The capital city, Moscow, is located on the Moskva River, which bends its way through the city. Most of the main sites are on the northern bank of the river: the Red Square, the Lenin Mausoleum, the Kremlin, the Old Arbat Street, the Bolshoi Theater, and the Tretyakov Gallery. Another top destination is Saint Petersburg, Russia's cultural and former political capital at the eastern tip of the Baltic Sea and the Neva River. Apart from the Hermitage, the city centre is a living open-air museum in its own right.
