The park, established in the 1770s, is one of the oldest municipal parks in Europe, reflecting Baroque classicism, with walks set up in a star-shape, with different kinds of trees (willow, alder, maple, etc.) planted by the side. Local sights include the statue of Janko Král, the Petralka Stadium, home to the FC Artmedia Bratislava football club, the Arena Theatre, and the Gothic tower or Gotická vea, a prominent architectural structure, previously a Franciscan church tower, built in the early part of the 15th century. The tower is a special landmark, a favourite meeting place, and a preferred spot for wedding photographs.
