The city of Gyor is located in northwestern Hungary, along the freeway between Budapest and Vienna. The historical city is a prominent cultural center in the region. The first permanent theatre was built in Gyor at the end of the 18th century, in today�s Rado Island, and the first Hungarian theatrical company was formed in 1811.
Today�s Gyor National Theatre was originally named after Karoly Kisfaludy, and was built in the 1970�s. The main building includes an auditorium seating 700, the main stage, and the lobby. On either side, smaller stages and scenery storage rooms join the main wing, with a ballet hall and a rehearsal stage on the top, and additional service rooms in the basement.
