The village of Holloko is located in Nograd County, in the Cserhat Mountains in northern Hungary. The fort on its offset cliff was built in the 13th century, but since the region does not offer favorable agricultural conditions, the village has never become a prominent settlement. The houses often suffered from fire, until they received an adobe base in the 1910's, the roofs were covered with tiled shingles. The atmosphere of this era and the local folk architecture style can still be observed in the village.
The Old Village became part of the World Heritage Sites in 1987. It is not an open air museum, but a living community, but many local craftsmen open their shops to the public. In addition, a village museum, a postal museum and a doll museum can also be visited. Holloko - Old Village - nearest hotels
