The city of Pecs below the Mecsek Mountain has a long span of history. The Roman Empire established a city during the second century, and the first Hungarian king, Stephan formed a local bishopric in 1009. The 150 years of Turkish rule added a great number of unique buildings to the city. Today, various monuments and historic sites bring back the times of the past, and form a rich cultural heritage.
The ancient Christian tombs are located below Dom Square, and can be accessed through the entrance of the Cella Septichora Visitors Center. Renowned sites in Pecs also include church buildings from the 4th century, mosques and baths from the Turkish era, a university library, a synagogue, the bishops palace, and various parks. ![]() ![]() Pecs Ancient Christian Tombs - nearest hotels
