The village of Zalaszanto is situated in the middle of the Keszthely-hills, along the road between Keszthely and Sumeg, on the northern side of Lake Balaton, in western Hungary. Local sights include historic church buildings, a basalt street, and the Tatika-Fort.
The ruins of the Tatika-Fort stand on the western skirt of Kovacsi-Hill, surrounded by a 74-hectares native beech forest. In the unique forest, a 6-km long nature walk introduces visitors to the world of local flora and fauna. The hill includes a basalt corridor, where 5-10 meters high pillars, caves and pits offer breathtaking sites. The area belongs to the Lake Balaton Nature Reservation Park.
