The town of Sarvar is located in western Hungary, 25 kilometers east of Szombathely, on the banks of the Raba River. The area has been populated since pre-historic times. When the Huns entered the Carpathian Basin, they established a mud/dirt fort in this spot. Consequent alterations and enlargement resulted in a 17th-century Renaissance Castle, owned by the Nadasdy Family.
Through the prominent family, the town and the castle was an important cultural center through the 16th-17th century. Today, the castle building hosts a museum, a bibliotheca, and a cultural center. The knight�s hall is decorated with the battle scenes of Lord Chief Justice Ferenc Nádasdy, and scenes from the Old Testament. A well kept botanical garden joins the castle ground. Additional sights in town include the St. Lesley�s church, rebuilt in Baroque style, the grave of Sebestyen Tinodi-Lantos, and the spa with its famous medicinal water.
