Szechenyi Square - Sopron |
|
The Szechenyi Sauare of Sopron is situated in the southern part of downtown. Originally, there was a small pond in the middle of the square, but it is now entirely covered by a nicely lanscaped park. Istvan Szechenyi donated the first trees of the park, and the family owned a home on this square, where they kept an outstanding coin-, book- and map collection, later given to the Hungarian National Museum at its establishment, and for these two reasons, the square bears the name of the family.
Historical buildings on the square include the Szechenyi Mansion, the Postal Palace, a Domoinican Church and Abbey, the Liszt Ferenc Conference Centre, and the Berzsenyi Daniel Evangelical Highschool and Lyceum. Szechenyi Square - Sopron - nearest hotels
