The village of Villany is located in the southern part of Hungary, in Baranya county, east of the Villany Hill, south of the city of Pecs. The climate of the region enjoys a Mediterranean effect, with many hours of sunshine, which is very favorable for vineyards. Grapes have been grown on the southern slopes of the hill probably since pre-historic times, but for sure since the Roman era. The village of Villany received �the city of grapes and wine� in 1997.
The cellar row in Villany is a favoured destination of tourists. Larger wineries, modern cellars are found here along with traditional smaller wine cellars. The cellars offer wine-tasting, matching dishes and delicacies, as well as various programs. A wine museum exhibits the tools of wine-making, and introduces visitors to regional folk traditions.
