The town of Tapolca is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Balaton, in western Hungary, surrounded by basalt hills. Local sights include the Mill-Lake, the park of ruins, and the St.Georg-Hill. Tapolca is an important cultural and wine-trading center.
The Pond-Cave is estimated to be about 4 kilometers long, 2.5 kilometers of which is accessible by boat. The prettiest halls of the cave include a 20-m long, 8-m high, 3-5-m wide Loczy-hall, the Batsanyi-hall with beautiful chambers, and the Maximum-hall with breathtaking crystals.
