Freedom Bridge, Szabadság híd, is located in the southern part of downtown Budapest, connecting Gellert Square on the Buda side with Fővám Square on the Pest side. It was built in 1894-96, as the third permanent bridge – and the shortest - of the Hungarian capital. It was bombed in 1945, but since only the middle section received major demages, this bridge was the first one to be restored after the war. Renovations followed in 1980 and in 2007.
