Vajdahunyad Castle, officially called the Historical Building Complex, is situated in the City Park of Budapest, behind the Ice Rink, near Heroes’ Square and the Széchenyi Spa. It is located on an island, named after Count Széchenyi, and can be accessed on four bridges. Built for the 1896 millennial celebration, it represents the thousand-year history of Hungarian Architecture. The main facade resembles the Vajdahunyad Castle of Transylvania, other parts of the building complex include roman-, gothic, and renaissance-baroque style pieces. One wing hosts the Hungarian Architecture Museum.
The castle ground can be freely visited. The Museum is open from 10am until 5pm every day except for Mondays. It is easy to access by public transportation, a short walk from the Széchenyi Fürdő – Széchenyi Spa station of the M1 metro line.
